
Instructions:
- Prepare the cabbage:
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- Remove the core of the cabbage and place the whole head in boiling water for a few minutes.
- As the outer leaves soften, peel them off and set aside to cool.
- Make the filling:
- In a large bowl, mix ground meat, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, and seasonings until well combined.
- Assemble the rolls:
- Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of a cabbage leaf.
- Fold the sides over the filling, then roll up tightly like a burrito.
- Repeat until all filling is used.
- Prepare the sauce:
- In a saucepan, heat olive oil, add tomato paste, stir for a minute, then add tomato sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 5–10 minutes.
- Bake:
- Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
- Pour sauce evenly over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (180°C) for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Serve:
- Spoon extra sauce over the top and enjoy warm!
