🥩 Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions
Ingredients
Beef & Marinade
- 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
Vegetables
- 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar or white vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp black pepper (freshly cracked is best)
- ¼ cup beef broth or water
- 1 tsp cornstarch (for slurry)
Optional Garnish
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped green onions
Instructions
- Marinate the beef
Toss sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Let sit 10–15 minutes. - Prepare sauce
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar, sugar, black pepper, and beef broth.
Stir in cornstarch to make a slurry. Set aside. - Cook the beef
Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat.
Add a little oil and stir-fry beef 2–3 minutes until just browned. Remove and set aside. - Stir-fry vegetables
Add a bit more oil, stir-fry onions and bell peppers 3–4 minutes until slightly tender.
Add garlic and cook 30 seconds. - Combine
Return beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce.
Stir constantly until sauce thickens and everything is coated (about 2–3 minutes). - Serve
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve over steamed rice or noodles.
