Instructions:
- Prep the Steaks 🥩
- Pat cube steaks dry with paper towels.
- Mix flour, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in a shallow dish.
- In another dish, whisk eggs and buttermilk together.
- Dredge & Coat
- Dip each steak into the flour, then egg mixture, then back into the flour (double coating makes it extra crispy).
- Fry the Steaks 🍳
- Heat about ½ inch of oil in a large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry steaks 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove and keep warm on a wire rack or paper towels.
- Make the Cream Gravy 🥛
- Pour off most of the oil, leaving about ¼ cup with browned bits in the skillet.
- Whisk in flour, cooking for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and thickened (about 5 minutes).
- Season generously with salt and plenty of black pepper.
- Serve 😋
- Place steaks on plates, spoon creamy gravy over the top, and enjoy with mashed potatoes or biscuits.
👉 Some folks also like to add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour for a little kick.
Do you want me to also give you a buttermilk biscuit recipe to go along with the steak and gravy for a full Southern meal? 🥔🍞
