
🥨 How to Make Hungarian Lángos (Authentic Recipe) 🇭🇺
Golden, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside—Lángos is Hungary’s most famous street food, traditionally topped with garlic, sour cream, and cheese.
🛒 Ingredients
Dough
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2¼ tsp (1 packet) instant dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk (not hot)
- 2 tbsp oil (or melted butter)
- 1 small potato, boiled & mashed (optional but traditional)
For Frying
- Vegetable oil
Classic Toppings
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed + 2 tbsp water or oil
- Sour cream
- Grated cheese (Hungarian Trappista, mozzarella, or cheddar)

1. Make the Dough
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Rest 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, oil, and mashed potato.
- Knead until soft and slightly sticky (about 8–10 minutes).
- Cover and let rise 1 hour, until doubled.
2. Shape
- Punch down dough.
- Divide into 6–8 balls.
- Let rest 10 minutes.
- Stretch each ball gently with oiled hands into a thin round (thicker in the center).
3. Fry
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry one at a time 1–2 minutes per side until golden.
- Drain on paper towels.
4. Top & Serve
- Brush hot lángos with garlic mixture.
- Add sour cream and grated cheese.
- Serve immediately.

- Don’t roll with a pin—stretch by hand
- Dough should stay soft, not firm
- Eat fresh—lángos is best hot!
