🥧 Shepherd’s Pie (Meat & Mashed Potato Casserole)
🛒 Ingredients
Meat Filling
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or lamb)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp oil
Mashed Potato Topping
- 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 2 tbsp butter
- ½ cup milk (warm)
- Salt to taste
- ½ cup shredded cheese (optional, for topping)
👩🍳 Instructions
- Cook the potatoes
Boil potatoes in salted water until soft. Drain and mash with butter, milk, and salt until creamy. Set aside. - Prepare meat filling
Heat oil in a pan. Sauté onion until soft, add garlic.
Add ground meat and cook until browned. - Season & simmer
Stir in tomato paste, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Add broth and simmer 5–10 minutes until thick.
Mix in vegetables and cook 2 more minutes. - Assemble
Spread meat mixture in a baking dish.
Spoon mashed potatoes on top and smooth with a fork.
Sprinkle cheese if using. - Bake
Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes, until golden on top. - Rest & serve
Let rest 5 minutes before slicing.
