🥟 Hungarian Plum Dumplings – Szilvásgombóc

Ingredients:

  • 500 g potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • 150–200 g flour (plus extra if needed)
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8–12 plums (pitted, whole or halved)
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar (optional, for filling)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Coating:

  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 3–4 tbsp butter or oil
  • Sugar (to taste)
  • Cinnamon (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare potatoes
    Boil potatoes until soft, mash them well, and let cool.
  2. Make dough
    Mix mashed potatoes with flour, egg, and salt until you get a soft dough.
  3. Prepare plums
    Wash and pit the plums. Add a little sugar inside if you like.
  4. Form dumplings
    Flatten dough, place a plum in the center, and wrap it into a ball.
  5. Cook
    Boil dumplings in salted water until they float (about 5–8 minutes).
  6. Prepare coating
    Toast breadcrumbs in butter until golden.
  7. Finish
    Roll cooked dumplings in breadcrumbs and sprinkle with sugar or cinnamon.
