  3. Layer the casserole:

    • Add a layer of sliced hard-boiled eggs.
    • Add a layer of sausage slices.
    • Spoon over some sour cream, season with salt and pepper.
    • Repeat the layers until ingredients are used up, finishing with potatoes and a generous sour cream topping.
  4. Top with butter dots and optional shredded cheese.
  5. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 35–40 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
