
🥒 Grandma Varga’s Hungarian Cucumber Salad (Uborkasaláta)
Ingredients
- 3–4 cucumbers, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2–3 tbsp water
- 1 clove garlic, finely minced (optional but very traditional)
- 1 tbsp oil (optional)
- Sweet Hungarian paprika, for sprinkling
- Sour cream (optional topping)
Instructions
1️⃣ Salt the cucumbers
Place sliced cucumbers in a bowl, sprinkle with salt, and let sit 10–15 minutes.
Squeeze out excess liquid gently.
2️⃣ Make the dressing
Mix vinegar, sugar, water, garlic, and oil.
3️⃣ Combine
Pour dressing over cucumbers and mix well.
4️⃣ Finish
Sprinkle with sweet paprika and add a little sour cream if you like.
5️⃣ Chill & serve
Best served cold after 20–30 minutes in the fridge.
