🥐 Hungarian Jam-Filled Yeast Pastries (Lekváros Bukta) 🇭🇺

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Prepare the Yeast Dough:

  • In a small bowl, mix the yeast with 1 tsp sugar and some lukewarm milk. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, vanilla, and remaining milk.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic (8–10 minutes). Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, until doubled.

2. Shape the Pastries:

  • Roll dough out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about ½ inch thick).
  • Cut into squares (about 3×3 inches). Place 1 tsp jam in the center of each.
  • Fold one side over the jam, then the other side over that. Seal well.

3. Second Rise:

  • Place seam-side down in a buttered baking dish, sides slightly touching.
  • Let rise again for 30–45 minutes.

4. Bake:

  • Brush tops with melted butter or an egg wash.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes or until golden.

5. Serve:

  • Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and enjoy warm or at room temperature.

🍑 Filling Tip:

Use thick, good-quality jam — homemade if possible — so it doesn’t ooze out during baking.
