👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Activate the yeast:
In a bowl, combine the warm milk (not hot) with the yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Stir and let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until foamy. This means the yeast is active.
2. Mix the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine:
- Flour
- Powdered sugar
- Salt
- Milk powder (if using)
Add the yeast mixture and mix until it forms a rough dough.
3. Add butter and knead:
Add the softened butter to the dough and knead well for 10–12 minutes (by hand or mixer) until the dough becomes smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.
4. First rise:
Form the dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, and cover with a towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 60–90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape the dough:
Punch down the dough and shape it as desired:
- One loaf (roll it and place in a loaf pan)
- Or divide into small balls and place in a round pan for pull-apart bread
Cover and let it rise again for 30–45 minutes.
6. Brush and bake:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Brush the top with egg yolk for a beautiful golden crust.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.
7. Cool and enjoy:
Let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with butter, jam, or just as-is — it’s unbelievably soft!
