- Prepare the okra
- Wash and slice fresh okra into ½-inch pieces.
- Make the egg wash
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Toss the okra in this mixture to coat evenly.
- Prepare the coating
- In another bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, salt, and pepper.
- Coat the okra
- Dredge the egg-coated okra in the cornmeal mixture until well coated.
- Fry the okra
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry okra in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 3–4 minutes per batch).
- Drain & serve
- Remove fried okra with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with extra salt if desired. Serve hot.

- Don’t overcrowd the pan — fry in batches for maximum crispiness.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of paprika or cayenne to the cornmeal mixture.
- Best served immediately while hot and crunchy.
