For the Apple Layer:

✔ 3 large apples, peeled and grated 🍏
✔ 2 tbsp sugar
✔ 1 tsp cinnamon 🌿
✔ ½ cup ground walnuts or raisins (optional) 🌰

For the Meringue:

✔ 3 egg whites 🥚
✔ 3 tbsp sugar
✔ ½ tsp lemon juice 🍋


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Bread Layer

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Slice the day-old bread rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and melted butter.
  4. Pour the mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they soak up the liquid.

2️⃣ Add the Apple Layer

  1. Mix the grated apples with sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts/raisins (if using).
  2. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the soaked bread.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes, until the apples are softened.

  1. Beat egg whites with lemon juice until frothy.
