✔ 3 tbsp sugar ❄
✔ ½ tsp lemon juice 🍋
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Bread Layer
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Slice the day-old bread rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and melted butter.
- Pour the mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they soak up the liquid.
2️⃣ Add the Apple Layer
- Mix the grated apples with sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts/raisins (if using).
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the soaked bread.
- Bake for 25 minutes, until the apples are softened.
3️⃣ Make the Meringue
- Beat egg whites with lemon juice until frothy.
- Gradually add sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
4️⃣ Final Baking
- Spread the meringue over the baked apple layer.
- Return to the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the meringue is golden brown.
