Ingredients

Crust

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • ¾–1 cup ice-cold water

Apple Filling

  • 10–12 cups apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled & sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp milk (egg wash)
  • 1–2 tbsp sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Make the crust
    Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
    Add cold water gradually until dough forms.
    Divide into 2 rectangles, wrap, chill 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare filling
    In a large bowl, toss apples with sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  3. Assemble
    Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
    Roll one dough rectangle to fit a 10×15 inch baking sheet.
    Add apple filling evenly.
    Roll second dough and place on top. Crimp edges and cut slits.
  4. Bake
    Brush with egg wash, sprinkle sugar.
    Bake 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  5. Cool & serve
    Cool at least 30 minutes before slicing.
