π Apple Slab Pie (Bakery-Style)
Ingredients
Crust
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup cold butter, cubed
- ΒΎβ1 cup ice-cold water
Apple Filling
- 10β12 cups apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled & sliced
- ΒΎ cup sugar
- ΒΌ cup brown sugar
- ΒΌ cup cornstarch
- 1Β½ tsp cinnamon
- ΒΌ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
- 1 egg + 1 tbsp milk (egg wash)
- 1β2 tbsp sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- Make the crust
Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
Add cold water gradually until dough forms.
Divide into 2 rectangles, wrap, chill 30 minutes. - Prepare filling
In a large bowl, toss apples with sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. - Assemble
Preheat oven to 190Β°C (375Β°F).
Roll one dough rectangle to fit a 10Γ15 inch baking sheet.
Add apple filling evenly.
Roll second dough and place on top. Crimp edges and cut slits. - Bake
Brush with egg wash, sprinkle sugar.
Bake 40β45 minutes until golden and bubbling. - Cool & serve
Cool at least 30 minutes before slicing.
