👩🍳 Instructions:
1️⃣ Make the Dough:
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tbsp sugar. Let sit for 5–10 mins until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk flour, remaining sugar, salt, and lemon zest.
- Add yeast mixture, eggs, and butter. Mix until dough comes together.
- Knead on a floured surface or with a mixer for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1.5 hrs). ⏳
2️⃣ Shape & Rise Again:
- Punch down dough and roll out to ½-inch thickness.
- Cut into rounds using a 2½–3 inch cutter (or a glass).
- Place on parchment-lined tray, cover with a towel, and let rise again for 30–40 mins.
3️⃣ Fry to Perfection:
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry 2–3 at a time until golden brown on both sides, about 2 mins per side.
- Drain on paper towels, then roll in granulated sugar while warm. ✨
4️⃣ Fill ‘Em Up!
- Using a piping bag with a round tip, poke a hole in the side or top of each bombolino.
- Pipe in your favorite filling until they’re gloriously stuffed! 😍
💡 Ashley’s Sweet Tips:
- Add orange zest + vanilla to your pastry cream for a bakery-style flavor.
- No piping bag? Use a plastic bag with the tip cut off — it works in a pinch!
- Want a twist? Make Tiramisu Bombolini by filling them with mascarpone cream and dusting with cocoa 🤎
