
A classic Hungarian dessert with layers of buttery pastry, sweet walnut filling, apricot jam, and a chocolate glaze.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
- ¼ cup warm milk
- Pinch of salt
For the Filling:
- 2 cups ground walnuts
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Other:
- ½–¾ cup apricot jam
- ½ cup dark chocolate
- 2 tablespoons butter (for chocolate glaze)
Directions
- Prepare Dough:
Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a teaspoon sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes.
Mix flour, sugar, eggs, butter, salt, and yeast mixture into a smooth dough. Divide into 3 equal parts. - Prepare Walnut Filling:
In a saucepan, combine ground walnuts, sugar, milk, and vanilla. Cook gently until thickened. Cool. - Assemble Layers:
Roll out one dough portion into a rectangle. Place in greased baking pan. Spread half the walnut filling evenly.
Place second dough layer on top. Spread apricot jam over it.
Place third dough layer on top and press gently. - Bake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake 30–35 minutes until golden. Cool completely. - Chocolate Glaze:
Melt chocolate with butter. Pour over cooled cake. Let set. - Serve:
Cut into squares or slices.
