For the Peppers & Filling
- 8–10 yellow Hungarian peppers (or bell peppers)
- 1 lb (450 g) ground pork (or beef/pork mix)
- 1/2 cup rice, uncooked
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
For the Sauce
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 4 cups (1 liter) broth or water
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt to taste
Optional
- 2 Hungarian-style smoked sausages (kolbász)
- 2–3 tomatoes, whole, added to the pot for flavor
