Step 1: Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, beat together the butter and cream cheese until creamy and smooth.
- Add the sugar and salt, and mix well.
- Gradually add the flour, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 3 or 4 pieces, wrap each in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to firm up.
Step 2: Shape and Fill
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one piece of dough at a time into a thin sheet (about ⅛-inch thick).
- Cut into squares about 2½ inches wide.
- Place a small amount (about ½ teaspoon) of your chosen filling in the center of each square.
- Fold one corner of the square over the filling to the opposite corner, forming a triangle or crescent shape. Gently seal the edges by pressing lightly.
- Place the filled cookies onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Brush lightly with the beaten egg.
Step 3: Bake
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Cool slightly, then generously dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
