🇭🇺 Mákos Nudli – Hungarian Potato Dumplings with Poppy Seeds

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Make the Dough:
    • Mash the boiled potatoes until smooth and let them cool slightly.
    • Add the egg, salt, butter, and enough flour to form a soft, non-sticky dough.
    • Knead until smooth but not too dry.
  2. Shape the Nudli:
    • Divide the dough into pieces and roll each into a long rope about the thickness of your finger.
    • Cut into 1-inch pieces and roll each into a small tapered dumpling (like a mini gnocchi or finger-shaped piece).
  3. Boil the Nudli:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Drop in the nudli and cook until they float to the top (2–3 minutes).
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain well.
  4. Coat with Poppy Seed Mixture:
    • In a large pan, melt the butter. Add the cooked dumplings.
    • Sprinkle the ground poppy seeds and powdered sugar over them and gently toss until evenly coated.
