
Omlós Teasütemény (Old-Fashioned)
Ingredients
- 2½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (or vanilla sugar)
- Pinch of salt
Optional
- Jam (apricot or plum)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg yolks, vanilla, and salt.
- Gradually add flour and mix just until a soft dough forms.
- Roll dough into small balls or logs, or press into simple shapes.
- Place on baking sheet and gently flatten slightly.
- Bake 12–15 minutes until set but still pale (do not brown).
- Cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar or sandwich with jam if desired.
Old-Style Tips
- “Omlós” means crumbly and tender — don’t overmix
- Traditionally served with tea or coffee ☕
- Keeps well for several days and improves in flavor 🇭🇺💛
