🛒 Ingredients
For the Meatballs
- 1 lb (500g) ground pork (or pork & beef mix)
- 1 small onion, finely grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried parsley
For the Paprika Sauce
- 1 tbsp oil or lard
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1½ cups beef or chicken broth
- ½ cup sour cream
- Salt to taste
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prepare Meatballs
- In a bowl, mix ground meat, grated onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, paprika, salt, pepper, and parsley.
- Shape into medium-sized balls.
- Brown the Meatballs
- Heat oil in a skillet.
- Brown meatballs on all sides (they don’t need to cook through yet). Remove and set aside.
- Make the Sauce
- In the same pan, sauté chopped onion until soft.
- Remove from heat briefly and stir in paprika.
- Add flour and cook 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in broth until smooth.
- Simmer
- Return meatballs to the pan.
- Cover and simmer 20–25 minutes until cooked through and sauce thickens.
- Finish
- Stir in sour cream and adjust seasoning.
