
Ingredients
- 2 lbs (900 g) bone-in chicken thighs or drumsticks
- 2 tablespoons oil or lard
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 green pepper, chopped (optional)
- 1 tomato, chopped (optional)
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon flour
Directions
- Heat oil in a large pot. Sauté onion until soft and lightly golden.
- Remove from heat and stir in paprika (to prevent burning).
- Add chicken pieces and coat well. Return to heat.
- Add salt, pepper, green pepper, tomato, and broth. Cover and simmer 35–45 minutes until chicken is tender.
- In a small bowl, mix sour cream and flour. Stir in a few spoonfuls of hot sauce to temper.
- Slowly add sour cream mixture back to the pot. Simmer gently 3–5 minutes (do not boil).
- Serve hot with nokedli (Hungarian dumplings) or egg noodles.
