Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- ½ cup warm milk
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1 ½ cups grated cheese (such as semi-hard cheese)
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes if using active yeast.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add butter and rub into flour until crumbly.
- Stir in sour cream, egg, yeast mixture, and 1 cup of grated cheese. Mix to form a soft dough.
- Knead briefly until smooth. Cover and let rise 45–60 minutes.
- Roll dough to about ¾ inch thick. Score the top in a crisscross pattern.
- Cut into small rounds. Place on a baking sheet.
- Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes until golden.
